Philosophy of Javanese Traditional Alphabets (Hanacaraka)



Javanese alphabet or usually called Hanacaraka, is alphabet that inherited from Brahmi alphabet that also used on ancient Javanese manuscript, Maduranese language, Sundanese language, Balinese language, and Sasak tribe language. It has same pattern with Hindi alphabet from India, or famoustly called Pallawa alphabet.
Javanese alphabet, from every alphabet pattern on it, have some philosophy. It based on Hinduism or Buddhism, religion that adopt by ancient Javanese people. These philosophy symbolize the harmony of life between human, God, and nature. Here's the philosophy that explained below.








Ha (Hana hurip wening suci)
Life is the will from His Holiness (The God)
Na (Nur candra, gaib candra, warsitaning candra)
The hope of human always to God
Ca (Cipta wening, cipta mandulu, cipta dadi)
One way one purpose, to The God
Ra (Rasaingsun handulusih)
True love comes from inner pure love.
Ka (Karsaningsun memayuhayuning bawana)
Wish is directed for prosperity of nature
Da (Dumadining dzat kang tanpa winangenan)
accept life as it is
Ta (Tatas, tutus, titis, titi lan wibawa)
Basic, the totality, one vision, prudence in viewing life
Sa (Sifat ingsun handulu sifatullah)
Forming love like the love of God
Wa (Wujud hana tan kena kinira)
human science is limited but its implications could be without limit
La (Lir handaya paseban jati)
Streaming the life just because of God guidance
Pa (Papan kang tanpa kiblat)
The Nature of God exist in all directions
Dha (Dhuwur wekasane endek wiwitane)
For the above course can be started from scratch
Ja (Jumbuhing kawula lan Gusti)
always trying to together and understand the will of Him
Ya (Yakin marang samubarang tumindak kang dumadi)
sure about the word and divine nature
Nya (Nyata tanpa mata, ngerti tanpa diuruki)
understand the nature of life
Ma (Madep mantep manembah mring Illahi)
sure and steady in the worship of God
Ga (Guru sejati sing muruki)
learning on teachers conscience
Ba (Bayu sejati kang andalani)
align themselves on natural motion
Tha (Tukul saka niat)
Something must be initiated from the intention
Nga (Ngracut busananing manungso)
release personal egoism
